Manor Road, Wimbledon
This small city garden was designed with a view to creating a strong link with the interior of the clients’ home which is quite minimalist and includes white painted wooden floors and hardwood work surfaces. Hardwood decking was laid at living-room level to allow a natural flow from interior to exterior. Bull-nosed steps were used as a transition from the deck to a lower patio. A feeling of permanence is created by using stone steps rather than timber. A square pond sits in the centre of garden which, apart from introducing the interest of water, serves as in informal seat and divides the garden into separate more intimate areas. The pond is constructed using rendered walls and is capped with bull-nosed coping stones to match the steps. The fencing and trellis have intentionally been kept simple to compliment the overall design. A bespoke L-shaped bench was made using hardwood to match the deck.
